Panforte is one of the most renowned specialties of the Tuscan city of Siena, with its origins dating back to the year 1000. This flat, dense, round confection closely resembles a soft torrone. It is created by dissolving sugar with honey and a touch of flour, then mixing in almonds, chopped candied fruit, and spices. The mixture is then baked in a shallow round dish until it becomes firm and dry.
Antonio Mattei Panforte is elegantly wrapped in their iconic Mattei blue paper. Perfect as a festive conclusion to a meal, panforte, when sliced into small wedges, complements coffee or a glass of sweet dessert wine such as Vin Santo.
