The “Chiostro di Saronno” is an ancient Franciscan cloister located in the centre of the town of Saronno.
Legend states that these biscuits were created three centuries ago by two young lovers for the Cardinal of Milan. Made by slowly baking a blend of sugar, apricot kernels and egg whites, these crunchy, round biscuits are decorated with sparkling white sugar and wrapped in colorful paper.
These authentic amaretti cookies are still produced today by descendants of the original Lazzaroni family, who have lived in the same home in the center of Saronno for over 300 years. The home, which was once a monastery and is now known as the cloisters, houses an archive museum that preserves the packaging and artifacts of the family's history. The brand name of the company, "Chiostro," is Italian for cloisters.
Beautiful small gift!
