Panforte or "strong bread" is a dense, sweet confection made of candied fruits .  This recipe was originally made to welcome Queen Margerhita to Siena in 1879.  Although Siena considers itself as the panforte capital, today this classic Italian confection is a enjoyed throughout Italy.  Enjoy with a sweet wine, such as Vin Santo.
